NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- SUNY New Paltz President Steven Poskanzer is leaving the college at the end of June. Poskanzer accepted the post of president at Carleton College in Minnesota and will begin there on August 2nd.

Poskanzer served as interim president at New Paltz from October 2001 until he was named President of the school in May of 2003. He made headlines when he helped garner $94 million in state funding which led to the biggest improvement to the New Paltz campus in decades.

"This college and this region will always hold a great clutch on my heart. I am very proud of the way we were able to significantly improve the quality of academics at New Paltz. If you look at any of the credentials of the students coming in, the types of teachers and faculty coming in, the staff we are able to hire, in terms of the visibility the college has, in terms of the very powerful positive forward momentum, I am very proud of the work many colleagues and I have done here together," said Poskanzer.

SUNY chancellor Nancy Zimpher is expected to appoint an interim president soon. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
